Social Security

In the United States "Social Security" is the government system that provides monetary assistance to people with inadequate or no income; primarily the elderly and handicapped citizens.

But think about those words:  1) social means society; 2) security means free from danger.  This clip gives us a different prospective on society securing its elderly from danger.

See if you can make the correlation . . .

Myrna's Masters Thesis

Myrna's Filmed Thesis in Nairobi, Kenya
The above clip is my masters internship  in Nairobi, Kenya.  The footage was submitted in lieu of a thesis.  This film is not intended to offend.  It depicts what I experienced one day in Nairobi, Kenya.  If this film offends you, please write to me and describe the offense.  Your thoughts will be considered.

An African American  in Africa

I wrote the paper anyway

Footage casually filmed by me, Myrna  Roberts, regarding education in Nairobi, Kenya.  Starting at Mukuru Village Primary School  and ending at Neema Children's Centre High School in Nairobi West.    This film specifically targeted the orphaned and other vulnerable children; showing the effect of HIV/AIDS in Kenya.

However, many other schools were studied, but not filmed; or the footage will be used in other  ways.  Fascinating people were interviewed, specifically:
  1. Father Josephat Wanyoike of the St. Mary's Catholic School (targeting A/P and boarding schools);
  2. Fatima Saman, Principal at Nairobi Muslim Academy (phenomenal interview);
  3. Bishop Wilmose Kiplagat, who took me to a boarding school which will be named later,  Mukuru Village Primary School, Neema Children's Centre, and the school at his church, New Life Christian Church, which was under  construction;
  4. Rev. Josphat and Valence Mamet
  5. Sophia Bogonko, administrator at Neema Children's Centre
  6. several Civil Engineering Students at the University of Nairobi via Jane Mutulili.

I really must thank Jane Mutulili for envisioning my trip to Kenya years before it happened.  Jane did everything in her power to make sure that trip happened, including enticing me with  truckloads of Maasii art and other curious treasures to get me to cross the Atlantic and Mediterranean.
